Call: Workshop 28./29.01.2027 »Agrarian Landscapes: Fields of Terrestrial Forces«
13 April 2026
The CAS »Imaginaria of Force« (UHH) invites applications for the workshop »Agrarian Landscapes: Fields of Terrestrial Forces«, which will take place on January 28/29, 2027 at the seminar room of the CAS »Imaginaria of Force«.
The arable field is at the heart of the ecological crisis of our time and, at the same time, a nexus of ecological, economic, and cultural forces. Taking these current debates as a starting point, the workshop examines artistic and cultural engagements with the arable field from the premodern period to the present. Art, literature, and other cultural artifacts offer a particularly revealing archive of how the field has been understood as a configuration of diverse – human and more-than-human – forces. We invite contributions from art history, literary studies, environmental history, agricultural science, cultural anthropology, landscape history, philosophy, and the history of theology, among other disciplines.
Abstracts (max. 300 words) with the keyword »Agrarian Landscapes« in the subject line are due by July 1, 2026 to franca.buss"AT"uni-hamburg.de.
