New Fellow in the Winter Term: Sara Benninga

We welcome our new fellow Dr. Sara Benninga at the CAS »Imaginaria of Force«. Sara Benninga is an art historian and contemporary artist whose work lies at the intersection of art history, cultural history, and the history of ideas. She specializes in Baroque painting, the representation of pleasure, and the body and the senses in early modern northern European art. Her research engages with questions of corporeality, affect, and the visual articulation of licit and illicit experience in the early modern period; an emerging line of inquiry considers the intersection between activism, society, and contemporary art. During her research stay at the CAS from mid-October 2026 to mid-February 2027, she will investigate the topic »The Aesthetics of Collective Disorder: The Spectacle of Crowds and Violence in Early Modern European Prints«.
