New publication: Philipp Ekardt / Frank Fehrenbach / Cornelia Zumbusch: Politische Emotionen in den Künsten

Anxiety, worries, outrage, hate, contempt, but also trust, hope, compassion, empathy or sympathy are considered both the driving force of protest movements and a decisive factor in processes of opinion formation. They seem to guarantee the cohesion of political entities and are responsible for mass psychological phenomena such as coups and revolutions or the collapse of such movements into terror and dread.
Volume seven of the series »Mnemosyne. Schriften des Internationalen Warburg-Kollegs« (Verlag De Gruyter, Berlin) contributes to current debates revolving around the legitimacy of political emotions by turning its attention to the history of art and literature: Which iconographies do current politics of emotion draw upon? Which dramaturgies that have already become codified do social movements abide by? And which familiar narratives of mobilization or containment of political emotions are adopted?
