Imagination is situated at the intersection of issues explored by the CAS »Imaginaria of Force«. As a human faculty, on the one hand, imagination mediates between sensory perception and conceptual ideas. As a distinguished force of the human mind, on the other hand, it is itself the object of varying, even contradictory conceptions. The workshop will discuss historical and contemporary models of imagination in order to describe its variously conceived capacities and outputs, but also its limits and repeatedly addressed threats. Is imagination conceived as a somatic disposition or pathological deviation, as a regulated cognitive process or an effect of numinous influences, as a reproduction of the perceived or as creative potential?
