Call: Warburg-Kolleg 14.–17.10.2024 »Energielandschaften«, Warburg-Haus, Hamburg
17 January 2024
The Warburg-Haus (Hamburg) and the DFG Research Group »Imaginaria of Force« (UHH) invite applications for the Warburg-Kolleg »Energy Landscapes«, to be held at the Warburg-Haus (Hamburg) from October 14 to 17, 2024.
Landscapes characterized by renewable energies (wind, sun, water and biomass) are currently discussed as ›new‹ energy landscapes. However, cultural landscapes were shaped by the generation, use and transport of energy long before modern energy transitions, first to fossil fuels, then to renewables. With this call for applications for the Warburg-Kolleg »Energy Landscapes«, we would like to invite reexaminations of European and non-European traditions of landscape representation and practical landscape design - including landscape painting, photography, land art, garden and landscape architecture, landscape poetry, narrative and descriptive landscape in prose, and (new) nature writing - to look for traces of the energy industry. The aim is to offer an extended framework for the discussion of contemporary landscape transformations by providing a historical dimension, interdisciplinary aesthetic perspectives and intercultural comparisons.
Applications should be submitted by 15.04.2024 with a concise CV and a 1-2 page proposal for a presentation, which may be developed into a contribution to a joint publication. Please send your application to imaginarien.der.kraft"AT"uni-hamburg.de.
