Announcement: Levture of Cornelia Zumbusch: Care for the World? Zur Kritik ökologischer Sorge
30 October 2025
Prof. Dr. Cornelia Zumbusch will give a lecture on the topic of »Care for the world? Zur Kritik ökologischer Sorge« as part of the symposium organized by Juliane Rebentisch »›Denken müssen wir. Wir müssen denken!‹ Kritische Theorien im Anthropozän.«
›Earthcare‹ (Merchant), ›cura del mondo‹ (Pulcini), ›cues to care‹ (Nassauer/Hostetler) or ›matters of care‹ (Bellacasa) – ideas of care have enjoyed sustained popularity since the ecofeminism of the 1990s, through care ethics and ecological landscaping, to current Anthropocene debates. The lecture first analyzes some of these approaches and outlines their affective premises and ethical implications. The mythological figure of Cura, as first found in Hyginus, is then used to suggest dimensions of ecological concern that not only evoke harmonious ideas of protection and care, stewardship and nurturing, but also provide space for the dark sides of concern, ranging from hardship and fear to work and toil to waste and its disposal.
